The effort to obtain a grant through the state government in Frankfort to assist in the restoration and renovation of the Neal Building has moved forward significantly during the past week. A meeting was held last week at the City Building to finalize plans for applying for grant funds totalling $300,000. The planning session was attended by Bluegrass ADD Executive Director Jas Sekton, Earl Ogata of Bluegrass ADD, Mayor Kelley, City Council members Doug Garrett, Frankie Hughes and Larry Jolly, and Dr. Robert Sparks, who serves as Governor Paul Patton's liaison in Nicholas County.
Mr. Ogata and Dr. Sparks were joined at the City Building Monday morning of this week by Carol Garvin, representing the Nicholas County Historical Society, and Bob Garvin, the project fundraising chairperson, and watching as Mayor Kelley affixed his signature to the grant application documents.
