The Nicholas County Historical Society, Inc. was organized in 1974 in response to activities generated by celebration of the Nicholas County 175th anniversary.

We sponsor many educational programs for the community.

We conduct an annual dinner and membership meeting at the Depot with a speaker and election of board members.

In 1979, we purchased and renovated the L&N Passenger Depot on Market Street in Carlisle to use an office for the organization; a museum and repository for genealogical records; and as a public meeting place. Oral and/or video histories of Nicholas County natives with significant recollections have been collected and preserved. These resources are available for research by appointment: write, call, or email the Society to schedule your appointment.

We publish a quarterly newsletter for our members. Membership is $10 a year payable to the Nicholas County Historical Society, Inc.

Schedule an appointment to view the resources of the Historical Society at the Passenger Depot
